About 1500 kilograms of watermelon were distributed. Then we sent 1500 kilograms of watermelon to the sanitation workers in Zaoyuan Street Committee. By 14th, 13500 kilograms of watermelon were distributed. The activity was completed. Love and kindness could be sensed without language. We are thankful to have companions on the way for serving people. 13500 kilograms of watermelon were bought from the peasants and distributed to people as sanitation workers, the aged and bus drivers. On August 13, 2016, free watermelon distribution went to the second day in Hu County. The weather was hot in Xi’an with temperature over 40 centigrade. People felt like staying under AC in the room. Sanitation workers still had to work no matter how high temperature was. Meanwhile, volunteers from 029 Public Service Center were divided into groups and prepared for the activity. Apart from distributing over 2500 kilogram watermelon for residents at South Gate, 5500 kilograms of watermelon would be given to over 200 sanitation workers and the aged living in Tangdu Garden community. The watermelon were donated by loving enterprises and persons in Xi’an. At 11:30 in the morning, the truck arrived with watermelon. The sanitation workers were waiting in 2 lines and helped to unload the watermelons. Most of sanitation workers are old with dark skins and gray hair. When volunteers delivered watermelon to the workers, they smiled and were as kind as our families. We respect these sanitation workers. Their average age is about 56 and some of them are over 60, but they still work over 8 hours a day, especially those who work in western station. Beautiful city cannot be separated with hard work of sanitation workers, nor the participation of each of us. We hope people pay attention to their behaviors and do not litter garbage, which will relief burden of the workers. We hope people respect their work and build a clean city together. Once the deliver for sanitation workers was complete, we went to Tangdu Garden community and deliver watermelon for the aged. The distribution lasted from 5:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon. Over 40 volunteers participated in the service. They went to 3 sites and delivered 8000 kilograms of watermelon to the residents and sanitation workers. Volunteers were wearing red vests at each distribution site. They were serving people under high temperature without complains. A watermelon may not worth much money, but it condenses people’s love, which likes a cool stream bringing refreshing to the sanitation workers and community residents. We hope the public service activity can help the peasants to sell more watermelon and care sanitation workers and the aged in the city on the one hand, and arouse more people and enterprises to care peasants and take social responsibilities. Hot weather in summer could not hinder our callings for love. All people put into action to show love and kindness. Good news, good news! Mr. Zhao Wangdong from Hu County’s Wu Zhu Town plants watermelons, and has had recent trouble selling them. On August 13, 2016, the Shanxi News Station’s “City Bulletin,” Shanxi Fire Department, Xinxili Community of Beilin District, Shanxi’s 029 public service center, and the Shanxi Zhichengxinye Network Technical Ltd. all collaborated to give 5000 pounds of watermelon to firefighters, poor elderly people from Xinxili Community, and sanitation workers in the front entrance of the Yonghui Supermarket. The goal: to relieve them from the heat by providing something refreshing! Early in the morning, volunteers all gathered in front of the Yonghui Supermarket door. After introducing themselves, they began to work together, pulling and shoving the 5000 pounds of watermelon into place. It was early in the morning but they were already pouring with sweat. After everything was ready, and following the host’s impassioned opening speech, a group of women wearing beautiful costumes displayed their attire, posing playfully. They were a ray of sunshine and optimism, and lifted the hearts of the Xinxili residents and firefighters. Applause followed, and the public was drawn to the scene by the burst of applause. Next, the “extinguisher representative” spoke about the importance of safety and preventive measures when using power. During the interactive session, everyone participated enthusiastically, even the supermarket’s security personnel! The firefighters also prepared generous fire prevention gift packages for people who answered questions correctly. When the event ended, volunteers quickly performed their designated jobs: passing out cards and watermelons, and organizing teams. The event was orderly and well-organized due to the hard work and organization of 029 volunteers. Firefighters and residents lined up in an orderly fashion, and people expressed their appreciation to the volunteers. There was an old man that said “I give you guys 100 thumbs ups!” As a sanitation worker ate chopped watermelon, he said excitedly, "This watermelon is so sweet; it not only is sweet in the mouth but is sweet in my heart." Soon over 5000 pounds of watermelon had been distributed, and activities are nearing their end. The 029 volunteers reflected on the event afterwards, and one first-time volunteer said, "these events are so meaningful, and although I am tired, I am very happy to be that we are together. In the future I will participate more often in charitable events like this one." Soon we were thrown into preparing the afternoon’s activities. Such is the nature of this lovely group of people. There’s a group of person who is always on call and always come whenever they would be needed. I dreamt to be a volunteer when I was I child. I was even dreamed to teach in the remote areas. Coincidently I attended voluntary activity on Mid-Autumn Festival. I experienced to be a volunteer finally. I had thought every one now can eat full 3 meals a day though we are not rich. The actually situation surprised. A volunteer with about 10 years’ experience told me an old granny had nearly been starved to death though she had 3 sons. That’s terrible to me. Her sons were devils. I also got to know some old persons over 70 had to pick up trashes to feed their grandsons and the whole family. It’s not easy to raise children. What makes the children to abandon their parents. I thought a lot when I visited a family. I had too much happiness compared to many persons. It’s my first time to join voluntary activity. Some people even said we were cheaters. Some of them even refused us. I was frustrated. Some volunteers had been doing their services for over 10 years and they met various situations. They did not give up anyway. When we left a family, the grandparents of the family said we were kind and nice. The grandmother even bowed to us. I was moved and I will participate in such activities in the future. Chongyang Festival (a day to show respect to senior citizens in China) was coming. Doctor Yang, who is from the Chinese Medicine Center, came and did free services for the senior citizens. She is professional and patient.
Early in the morning, volunteers were busy arranging the site, moving tables, chairs, and organizing things. When the activity began, the senior citizens were waiting in line. Volunteers did their own jobs well. Some of them were doing information records, some were helping senior citizens, and some were guiding senior citizens to the line. Health workers were checking blood pressure and blood sugar for the senior citizens. Doctor Meng and Doctor Yang were taking their pulse and answering questions patiently. One of the senior citizens said happily, “This is very kind of you guys. You are doing good for our senior citizens. It’s difficult for some senior citizens to go to the hospital. This activity was a great help. Thank you! We hope there are more activities like this in the future.” We thank every volunteer who came for the activity today. We thank the health workers and doctors from the Chinese Medicine Center. We thank the staff from Youth 2nd Community. Thank you all for your love. We hope more and more people will participate in the activities, showing respect to senior citizens and helping them in more aspects. The weather was lovely and we were singing songs while we were driving to Yuchuan village of Lantian. When the vehicle drove on the mountainous road, we were surprised by the views in front of us. The mountains were covered with white snow. After 2 hours ride, we arrived at the village. The village secretary had been waiting for us. Steeping on the soft snow, we were on our way to the children’s homes. After an hour’s walking, we came to one of the children’s home. The rooms were simple and plain. The walls are dark and the child seemed shy. He answered our questions with flush face. His grandparents helped him with some questions. The family did not know who we are and what we are going to do. They had thought we had been sent by the government. I corrected their understanding and introduced our organization to them. And I also told them our purpose—to donate 500RMB to the student as school subsidies. Obviously, they knew nothing about non-profit organization. Holding the money, the child said, “thank you for your kindness and I will study hard.” On leaving, the child said nothing, but stood at the door and was seeing us leaving. When we turned around, we still saw he was standing there. He waved to us when he saw we turned around. For a moment, I understood the hope of the child. Our love could help them to fulfill their dreams to step outside the mountains. I am really lucky!”, Yang Xiufang, a disabled woman living in Rainbow complex, Xianyang City said today. In the afternoon of April 11, I applied to president a PC for Yang Xiuying, group head of Disabled Assistant Volunteer Group. I told president: She could not even go down the bed and the PC she was using currently was very old and often could not work. Our voluntary services relies a lot on internet which would sent out needs information, Yang Xiufang needs a better host computer. With this, president expressed they would donate a pc to Yang immediately. A kind person donated a host computer which had been used as a management computer in an internet café. It should meet the needs of Xiufang. In the morning of April 12, I took the computer to a digital shopping mall and found someone to do a test. The machine runs quickly and a technician re-stalled the system for free. When we sent the pc to Xiufang’s home and told her it was donated by 029 Public Service Organization. We replaced her old PC with new one and everything went well with it. Xiufang was really happy to see the new PC, “I am really lucky”! In the afternoon, we visited her again and asked about the new PC. She said it runs nice and sound. Thank president of 029 Public Service Organziation and the technician in digital shopping mall. In poor rural areas of the country, young parents leave their children behind and work in the cities far away from home. For these children, it is a “micro wish” to have a new backpack, an extracurricular book, a new dress, a pair of sneakers, a Barbie doll, toy cars, etc. For children in the city, things like this are pretty insignificant but for these children it is something they may have wished for a long time and still not easy to come by. May 23, 2014, Xi'an Alliance worked together with more than 30 employees of Chang'an Airlines of HaiHong Group. With 80 gifts prepared for the children’s “micro wish”, they came to visit Ma-Er town Central Primary School in SanYuan County of XianYang City. These “loving care gifts” are for children from poor families in the school to celebrate Children’s Day on June 1st. For this activity, we gathered 80 backpacks and each backpack came with some gift worth up to $100 Yuan, worth a total of approximate $13,000 Yuan. Employees of Chang'an Airlines also presented two sessions of “Loving Heart” lesson in English, good lesson but also pretty entertaining. It helped these children to broaden their horizon and knowledge. These children also performed some martial arts coupled with passionate music and won several rounds of applause. On August 10th 2014,children who lost their parents were settled at the temp houses. They still felt panic brought by the disaster. The teacher came to the site and tutored the children voluntarily. Seeing the stationeries and living necessities, they said thank you to us with innocent smiles. We were moved to tears…… A village was buried. There were over 100 persons. Only one was survived. There are mountains around the quake-hit areas. The villages were sparsely located. Most of living areas are concentrated at the bottom, middle and top of the mountains, which brought difficulties to the relief. Hold on, Ludian. We are with you. At night of August 10, the rain storm hit us. Water flowed to the tents. We prayed in the darkness. We concern a lot about the people at the quake-hit areas. On August 11, the weather changed a lot. Our team members were involved in relief work when they came to the site, helping the villagers to transfer their belongings and building the tents. They slept or sat on the ground when they were tired. Work has been done. 20 persons came for the first echelons and 19 for the second echelons. Just 12 persons returned. 27 persons continue to work for the relief. Brother Yi said goodbye to us. Hold on, my lovely team mates.
